Weightloss Update

This past month has been really difficult for me.  I had a really bad Lupus flare which resulted in me being in bed for about two weeks with pain that we could not figure out what the cause.  Two ultrasounds and one CAT scan later, everything internally looks ok or what is "normal" for me so the docs are putting it to being apart of my Lupus flare.  My face still has not recovered yet and the butterfly rash is still flying on my face.

Even though I had not been feeling the greatest, I was able to accomplish one of my weight loss goals for 2012.  Since January, I have been trying to lose weight and increase my walking abilities.  My primary goal was to walk in the The Crim Festival of Races which takes place every August in Flint, Michigan.  I am happy to say that I accomplished that goal this year.  While I only did the 5K, my goal is to increase it every year.  So next year I will either walk in the 5K again and try to improve on my time or extend the walk to the next 8K if I am able to find a better solution to my sun troubles.  With many of the medications I take at the present time, I am very photosensitive and blister in the sun after just a few minutes of direct exposure.

While walking in the race, I noticed I kept turning my head to see if anyone was behind me.  My biggest fear was that I would be the last one to cross the finish line.  Also I was desperately afraid of being lost along the race route by not being able to keep up with the other walkers. I am very happy to report my results.  Not only was I NOT the last person to complete the race, but for the first time I competed, I placed in the top third of the overall contestants!

For a few days I actually hit the 240's and I was quite excited.  However with eating out a lot this past week, I am back in the 250's.  Soon, I will be going to the grocery store and getting ready to do a 21 day detox thanks to the help of Crazy, Sexy, Diet by Kris Carr.  I did this in the past when I was getting ready to go 90% raw and it helped me out a lot to feeling better.  I have noticed that I feel better the more "raw" I eat.  So I am thinking of going back to a heavy intake of fruit and vegetables.  I will never be Vegetarian again, I love to eat meat and dairy way too much.  But I can limit the amount I eat and live a healthier lifestyle.

Every Wednesday, I will attempt to give an update on my weight loss journey.  I am still no way brave enough to show my "Before" pictures.  I am just not ready for them to be on the internet just yet without being supported by the "After" photos when I am going to look good. LOL

Hope you are having a Wicked Wednesday!  In a good way of course!

Blessed Be,
Crystal T.

Weight loss Update

Well as of this week I made it into the 250's and have stayed here since Monday.

I had oral surgery on a tooth that was causing an infection and swelling in my face from the top of my mouth, to my nose, up to my eye and then all the way to my ear.  It was very painful.  After a month of antibiotics it was not going away, doctors decided that it needed to be removed.  I was not healing because of my Lupus flaring.

So the past week I have been on a soft food diet.  Today is the first day I can actually eat something without being in pain.  With that most meals have been relatively consistent.... Puddings, Soups (alot of Miso!), pastas, soft fruits, Steamed rice with fish flaked into it.

As of yesterday when I got on the scale I weighed in at 256.4 lbs.

I am eating more solids this week since my mouth is feeling better.  I also have not been able to walk due to not feeling well and being on a lot of pain killers for the pain.

I do hope to get back on the treadmill this week so hopefully in the next two weeks I will be in the 240's!

Goals and New Page Added

I am adding a new page onto my blog dedicated to specific updates on my weight loss.

I am still considering whether or not I should post my "Before" pics. I simply don't know if I would be embarrassed by them or embarass my husband by my posting them. I am very ashamed of my body. There are many beautiful plus size women, but frankly I am not one of them. With shaving my head earlier this fall when my hair was falling out due to medical reasons, I just don't feel feminine anymore. I am hoping to bring back a better, healthier, beautiful me in 2013.

I have several goals in place for 2013.

Participate in the Crim Festival of Races.

Not be ashamed of my body.

Loose weight by nourishing my body with Gaia's bounty (aka fruits, vegetables, herbs, and grains) as the main source of food I consume. The doc has given me the green light to increase my protein intake but my body still gets sick everytime I attempt to do so. Seafood is still the primary source that does not get me sick and I stay the heck away from poultry as much as I loved it oh so long ago!

Cutting out the sugary drinks that I am so addicted too!

Using more organic products on my body (make-up, perfume, lotions, etc).

Losing enough weight so that I need a new wardrobe come this summer.

By "new" wardrobe, I mean majority of it upcycled from old clothes, remade into something new that is fitting and hopefully vintage inspired. If anything is purchased hopefully it will be vintage fashions or recycled items from an Etsy Shop, Salvation Army, or Goodwill store. I don't like today's fashions and hope that by losing weight I will be able to fit into treasures from the past. Only exception is shoes. I might invest in a new pair of shoes.

Developing an Exercise Routine and turning it into a habit

Somewhere I can remember reading (or hearing) that it takes 30 days to develop a new habit.  Well one of the things I desparately need to add to my Transformation is the addition of exercise.

This past week and throughout the weekend, my family was and I am currently sick.  Yesterday, my husband decided that even though I feel like death warmed over, I needed to go outside and get some fresh air.  Knowing that we needed some basic groceries, he decided that a walk to our local store was in order.  So he got the kids ready (stroller and all) and called out to me that they were ready.  Slowly I put my shoes and socks on to make it out into the rare sunshine and warmth that has happened in our area.  While at the store, I said that I wanted to get back into couponing.  So I decided to purchase a Sunday Newspaper. However to my surprise the one the store had to offer had minimal coupons in it.  I needed the Detroit Free Press which is not what this store had to offer.  So we walked home, empty hands for a newspaper.  An hour later, I still wanted my dang newspaper!  My husband suggested going out for another walk by myself this time to the two gas stations a few blocks away to see if they had my cherished newspaper full of coupons.  I debated this for about 10 minutes and then decided that unless I wanted to wait another week for a newspaper that I did indeed needed to set out and go for my second walk of the day.

I grabbed my Ipod loaded with my music from my Reclaiming and Friends cd and headed out for my second journey to find a newspaper.  The first gas station I stopped at was sold out so across the street I went into the second gas station.  I hit paydirt!  Not only did I get the last copy of the Detroit Free Press they had, but briefly had a conversation about just wanting the coupons that the store clerk handed me the coupons and ads from his personal newspaper!  So I got two for the price of one so to speak!  This exercise thing has extra benefits!  I look forward to walking to the same gas station next week to see if I can turn this into a routine for me and possibly score some more free coupons! LOL

I like to be organized about everything to every detail I possibly can.  Just ask my Coven sisters about any of our past trips to places such as New Orleans (back home) and or one of our many Salem, MA trips! LOL

So I have decided to come up with a game plan of sorts to incorporate exercise into my life.
My first goal is to walk at least 30 minutes a day be it outside pushing the baby in a stroller or downstairs in the basement for 30 minutes prior to dinner.  If I am unable to walk that day for whatever reason, I will at least hope to accomplish one of my goals for the week which I have listed below.

Other elements I hope to add include:

Sundays - Walk to Gas station to buy a Sunday Paper

Monday - What I call  "Magical Monday" by breaking out and performing the exercises from the Devotional Dance DVD by T. Thorn Coyle (this Month I will be working on the Elements Section)

Tuesday - Turkish Bellydancing Video

Wednesday - Its all about the Wii.  One hour of playing either Wii Fit or the Yoga Exercises

Thursday - This will be my mental exercise day, Meditation is the key element to work on today.

Friday - Firm Fridays - I have about 10 of "The Firm" videos that I lost alot of weight with whenever Eric and I were getting married.  I was able to dust my collection off and even transfer them from VHS to DVD so I can do them upstairs!

Saturday -   Working out with the Spouse!  I hope to have E help me out on lifting weights.

Majority of accomplishing many of these on a daily basis will be that if the baby takes at least an hour nap so that Mommy can work on her fitness and health.  Otherwise its the walking for 30 minutes whenever Daddy gets home.

Transformation

As most of those that know me, for the past 10 years I have had a serious battle (and losing that battle) of the bulge.  I am tired.   Sick and tired actually of how I look and more so on how I feel most of the time, which is pretty lousy.  I never have any energy to do anything.  I have become a couch potato.    This weekend something happened to be during a conversation with my husband.  He is clueless to how it has effected me and I do know that he meant no harm or disrespect.  But what he said did strike a cord within me and my weight.  He simply asked me why I wear sweat pants all the time and would like to see me wear something else again.  I was a bit taken back. When he left the room as I was getting dressed for my son's birthday party, I did not realize that I have become the stereo typical frumpy sweat pant and stained t-shirt wearing mom.  It was very hard to find anything in my closet that fit me and also looked good.  Majority of the clothing was too tight.

Well NO MORE!

Everyday I will do something.  No more sitting at the couch and watching tv all day.
For Yule, my hubby purchased us a new treadmill and its going to be used on a daily basis! At least 30 minutes per day.  Also on the docket is to start using some of my old favorite videos/dvds for exercising.  My favorite is Devotional Dance by T. Thorn Coyle.  Last time I used this dvd on a regular basis alone, I lost over 20 pounds.

I have thought about posting my "before" photos for the world to see, but I just do not know if I am ready for the whole world to see my Venus of Wilendorf shaped body (even though she's a beautiful plus size beauty, my body however is not beautiful, its disporportioned and I no longer like buying clothes.)

I am in no way saying I want to be a skinny Mini...but I do however want to become healthier than I currently am.  They say that your first goal should be 10% of your current body weight.  Well that is very close to 30 pounds for me (so you can easily do the math to see how much I currently weigh).

Guess this blog will primary focus on me getting healthy, and how I plan it will effect my relationship to the Goddess.  I know I am beautiful in her eyes as well as my husband's.  But now its time for me to look at myself in the mirror and love the woman that I see in it.

I hope you come with me on this journey to help encourage me on my path as well as call me out on myself when I need it.  I need a support system outside of my husband.  He is good and somewhat supportive, but he is skinny and healthy for the most part, so he just does not understand my point of view as a woman wanting to lose weight.

Recently, I was cleaning out one of our entertainment centers trying to put together all of my fitness videos, dvds, etc in preparations of my journey (once again) to losing weight. I came across one of my favorite dvds that I purchased a few years back.

When I first started these exercises, I lost about 20 lbs. Thorn's able to provide mental stimulation during the exercises. I am looking forward to working with this dvd again. Its the only Pagan Exercise instruction I am currently aware of. If you are interested, you should check it out on her website where its available for purchase.

So here is to losing weight, getting fit, and transforming from Venus of Wilendorf to Aphrodite! (For me anyways, I know Venus is beautiful, but I need to lose weight for health reasons most of all! Having cardiac arrest/scare during my second pregnancy was pretty scary.)

Blessed Be!

Weight Loss Spell

I am reposting this from another forum I belong to and posted this.

The topic of discussion was about weight loss. With the holidays here and stress, some people might appreciate this mantra to get them thru the situation of stressful eating.

Here is something I wrote a long time ago. I had not thought about it for some time since I have been having children. LOL

It's time for me to also lose some weight, 100 lbs matter of fact! I am sure I will be blogging about it in the future.

Anyways, here is my spell/affirmation/prayer. I use a piece of cord and then wear the cord the entire time I am trying to change my bad habits and live healthier.

I hope you enjoy it.

Weight Loss Spell
By Crystal

By the count of one, this spell's begun
By the count of two, there are pounds to lose
By the count of three, I'll eat no more than I need
By the count of four, no more soda, its water galore
By the count of five, this spell's alive
By the count of six, cravings nixed
By the count of seven, no more chocolate heaven
By the count of eight, I'll pretend I just ate
By the count of nine, In a year's time I'll be looking fine!

-------------------------------------

Ok, so I am not great with the rhyming...but the first time I did this (along with eating healthy and exercise) I did lose weight. I have about 100 lbs to lose so I think I will be working with leather cord this time around. Just remember the more you put into it and commit to it, the better results you will achieve. Right now I will personally have to combat my coca-cola and sweet tea (lots of sugar), as well as boredom eating to become sucessful this time around.

Sincerely,
Crystal
